Values
Startup Performance Values from Impact
Impact
Our purpose is to make a material difference in the world around us, specifically toward the mission and vision we seek. We measure that by the impact we have on our audience, and we believe that impact ultimately matters more than inputs. We engage directly with our audience members, act toward their aspirations, and reduce their pain. We believe that our success is only achieved through their success.
Integrity
We live our values. We do what’s best for the mission, our audience, and our team, even when it’s hard. We commit to acting with integrity with each other, the product we’re creating, the organization we’re building, and the audience we serve.
Ownership
We accept full responsibility for both our inputs and outputs. We embrace the scope of everything in our charge, both in what we do now and what we choose to defer. We have each other’s backs but operate without that expectation, fully thinking through opportunities, risks, and issues on behalf of the entire team.
Transparency
We are one team. Everyone’s work impacts everyone else because we each have a stake in each other’s outcomes. We share freely what we are doing, why we’re doing it, and how we’re doing it. We also seek mastery in personal skills and creative collaboration. Mastery requires feedback, and feedback requires transparency.
Mastery
We embrace a path of continuous improvement for ourselves and our collective action. We define standards, measure inputs and outputs, seek feedback, and keep raising the bar. We know that mastery requires focus, so we channel effort to the impact that matters most. We understand that mastering hard things sometimes means failure. We use failure to learn, and we fuel the climb toward greater mastery by the inherent value of its pursuit and the merit of our shared purpose.
Urgency
We choose to act, and we measure our progress in hours, days, and weeks, not just months and quarters. We recognize that time is a finite resource, and if we squander time, we waste our resources, our advantages, and our audience’s patience. We assume there is always a risk that’s moving faster than we are. We understand that urgency is a skill to master and seek ways to move swiftly without moving recklessly.
